MAHATMA GANDHI:
Gandhi was well known for being the spiritual leader of India’s independence, as well as someone with a non- violent resistance toward the government. He was born in Porbandar, Kathiawar India on October 2,1869. over the course of his life, he showed that he was courageous, as well as knowledgeable. Gandhi studied law in London, England, but later moved back to India, and there, he spent 20 years going against the discrimination against , where he spent 20 years opposing discriminatory legislation against Indians.
When he returned to India, he joined the Home Rule movement, and became leader of the Indian National Congress. he created an "army" who followed him with his opinions. thing is, this "army" vowed not to lay a hand on anyone. in other words, they couldn't hurt anyone, even if they were injured, they wouldn't not show their obedience. these people were all standing for a change in the righteousness and equality of all the Indians no matter what cast system. therefore, farmers and laborers would be just as equal as the government officials and leaders.
"Even after his death, Gandhi's commitment to non-violence and his belief in simple living--making his own clothes, eating a vegetarian diet, and using fasts for self-purification as well as a means of protest -- have been a beacon of hope for oppressed and marginalized people throughout the world." This quote shows how much of an inspiration and idol he was to so many Indians who believed in him, and how big of an impact he made; not just to Indians but the whole globe.
"An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind."

CROSSING THE POP CULTURE:
Indian national anthem: "Jana Gana Mana" (English translation)
Thou art the ruler of the minds of all people,
Dispenser of India's destiny.
Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sindhu,
Gujarat and Maratha,
Of the Dravida and Odisha and Bengal;
It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,
mingles in the music of Yamuna and Ganga and is
chanted by the waves of the Indian Ocean.
They pray for thy blessings and sing thy praise.
The saving of all people waits in thy hand,
Thou dispenser of India's destiny.
Victory, victory, victory to thee.

American national anthem: "The Star-Spangled Banner"
Oh, say! can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In fully glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution!
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust":
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Both of these national anthems show what is important to the country; but they are also very different. India’s national anthem states how proud they are of different landmarks and are hoping or a virtuous future. Us, in contrast more talk about the victory and freedom we, as Americans are proud to have. It shows the awe we have over this country and our sight in god. Overall, these are both fairly similar, in that we both want to prosper, have faith, and are proud of our nations.
