WEB TALKS: Gender Inequality
CHINA:
In china, there are many concerns of gender inequality and it has proven to be a challenge for the future generations. One problem is one of the newer laws stating that citizens could only have one child because of the large populations. Therefore, this creates gender inequality, the chinese wanting boys instead of girls. why? you ask..... people in chine dont like girls as much as boys because in the future, the boys will grow strong and can take care of them. the girls can not. this is an ancient and important part in chinese culture and is a hard thing to cange.
MIDDLE EAST:
gender inequality is prevelent anywhere and everywhere. in the middle east, women are extremeley limited to what they are able to do. there are many issues pertaining to this includidng social as well as freedom. for example, in saudi arabia, women arent even allowed to drive. women need permission of a male adult to be able to do almost anything, and still, arent free at ALL. this is a big issue and it hasnt gotten much better.
INDIA:
in india, actually, women and men have the same amount of freedom. ghandi stated "I am uncompromising in the matter of women's rights. The difference in sex and physical form denotes no difference in status. Woman is the con~plement of man, and not inferior" , describing the way everyone was to be treated equal and none less than the other. instead of the women being less than the men, they were both worth the same.
LATIN AMERICA:
wage inequality has shrunk a lot in latin america, almost to where the US is. overall, women earn about 17% less than males, even if they are more educated. women in the US earn rougly 18% less than men. why? women have houshold responsibilities still and need to take care of the child if injured or sick. even though the differences are shrinking, more should be done to fix this conflict.
AFRICA:
in africa, pretty much there is not alot of research done, and women are looked at as mostly a figure to clean, raise and take care of children, and cook. during a speech from Dr. Dlamini-Zuma’s inaugural speech, no words of women or gender equality was even mentioned, but instead focused on the economy. women are unable to even speak up because the issues arent brought up. overall, there are women issues that could be improved upon and changed, if effort is put into it.
